Born on July 21, 1933, in Los Angeles, California, to Warren and Dolores Groat, Dolores lived a full and joyful life rooted in faith, kindness, and unconditional love. After graduating from UCLA, she married her high school sweetheart, Victor Long, in 1956. Together, they built a life centered around family, tradition, and deep devotion to one another.
Dolores passed down her passion for holidays (especially decorating), birthdays, and family gatherings traditions now lovingly continued by her children and grandchildren. For over 40 years, Dolores and Victor cherished a timeshare just a stone’s throw from their home, where they spent a week each summer surrounded by children, grandchildren, and the sounds of the sea. She loved shopping for antiques, a beautiful voice she shared in the church choir, a green thumb for flowers, and a love for puzzles.
A beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Dolores gave unwavering support and boundless love to everyone and everything she held dear. After her youngest child entered Junior High school, she worked as a special education aide at an elementary school before retiring to help care for her grandchildren—one of her greatest joys. She was endlessly proud of her children and grandchildren and their many accomplishments.
Dolores is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Victor; her children David (Galinda) Long, Pam (Tom) Fore, Eric Long, and Rebecca (Joe) Medina; and was preceded in death by her daughter, Annie Kink. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Alexandra, Christopher, Ryan, Jordan, Kristen, Emily, Brian, Brandon, and Natalie; and great-grandchildren: Kaia, Beckett, and Olivia.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Glen Abbey Memorial Park, as per her wishes.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the San Diego Humane Society in Dolores’s honor—reflecting her love of animals.
