Donald Albert Fugere, middle child of the late Edward Fugere and Clara Zimprich, was born on November 30, 1932 in Moorhead, Minnesota. He later moved to Casselton, North Dakota, where in high school he played baseball until he graduated in 1951. During this time, he also became pen pals with his future wife Donna (Mertes). Soon after graduation, he moved to San Diego, California to join his brother, mother, and grandmother. He and Donna continued to write as he began his first job at Rohr Industries. In 1954, he returned to the Midwest to whisk Donna away to California where they were married on November 27th of that year. They built a home together in Paradise Hills in 1959, where Don would live for the rest of his life. While raising six tenacious children with Donna, Don coached Twin Hills Little League and Girls Softball for over 15 years. He also became heavily involved in Chula Vista Eagles Aerie 3142, where he was a member for 27 years, and for 18 of which, he served as an Aerie officer. He was also an active volunteer and usher at his church for many years. After his retirement in 1993 from Rohr, he enjoyed bowling, darts, gardening, and teasing his grandchildren. He was a dependable, kind and loving man that will be sorely missed by all.
He is survived by wife Donna, children Deborah (Richard) Haugen, Daniel Fugere, Darrell Fugere, Denise (Michael) Patterson, Darla (William) Meredith and Delinda Fugere, as well as 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
