Eduardo Abdon Marty, age 83, passed away at home on October 3, 2025 surrounded by his family. Born in 1942 in San Felipe, Zambales, Philippines, Eduardo entered the world as the first born child of Ramon and Florfina Marty. As a teenager, he left the province and headed to Manila to attend the University of the Philippines. After a brief time in college, he ultimately decided to enlist in the US Navy. While stationed in Alameda, he met Julie, and after courting for a few months, they wed in 1962. After numerous duty stations around the pacific, the birth of their three sons, and a tour in the Vietnam war, they finally settled in San Diego, where Eduardo was assigned to the USS Okinawa, then to Balboa Naval Hospital as a Corpsman instructor. He retired from the Navy after 23 years of service. Soon after, he began a second career with the US Postal Service. Starting as a mail processor at the Midway building, he soon moved up to supervisor in distribution operations at the Margaret Sellers facility. He retired from the Postal Service in 1997.
Eduardo pursued numerous hobbies outside of work. In his early years, he enjoyed shooting pool, bowling, fishing and playing poker. Later, he discovered his passion in gardening and would spend hours tending to his plants. He started with a small collection of succulents, and soon after, his interests turned to orchids. He spent a number of years as a member of the San Diego County orchid and succulent societies, often attending meetings and setting up displays at their shows. In his later years, he took up macrame and learned numerous knot techniques by watching YouTube videos. As he progressed, his designs got more intricate. He enjoyed sharing his love of plants with others, often gifting plant arrangements and macrame creations with those he crossed paths with.
Eduardo also spent his retirement years enjoying time with his grandchildren and supporting them and their various activities. His love and dedication to family shined during this time. You could always catch him cheering them on at their various sporting events. Their baseball games, basketball and volleyball tournaments, and tennis matches took him all around Southern California. He was always their number one fan.
Eduardo was preceded in death by his parents and eldest son Eddie, and is survived by his wife Julie, sons Edwin and Edgar, grandchildren Matthew, Emily, Nicholas and Sara, and sisters Fina, Veneracion, Fay, and Eleanor.
