

Emelita (Emily to her friends and Ate Nene to her siblings) was born on December 29, 1948 in Buna Cerca, Indang, Cavite, Philippines to Alfonso Ramos Aure and Zoila Crucena Aure. She graduated high school from St. Mary’s Academy in Pasay City, Philippines, and from Philippine Women’s University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting in 1969. That same year, she passed the national exam for accountants and became a Certified Public Accountant.
She married Larry Joseph Aquino on January 22, 1974 in San Ildefonso Parish Church, San Ildefonso, Bulacan, Philippines. In 1985, Emelita and her husband immigrated to the United States in search for better opportunities. Emelita and her family ultimately resided in San Diego, where she dedicated over 30 years of her professional career in the field of social work as a Human Services Specialist with the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency from 1990 to 2009, and then as an Employment Training Advisor for the Welfare-to-Work Program through SD HHSA subcontractor, Public Consultant Group, until her retirement in December 2020. Emelita also maintained part-time employment with the San Diego Marriott Marquis and Marina for 20 years as a Purchasing Clerk. Her family and colleagues will not forget her passion in her work providing welfare assistance to less fortunate individuals and their families.
Emelita's hobbies included gardening, cooking, shopping, decorating her home, and spending time with her husband and grandbabies. Emelita was also an avid fan of Filipino tele-novelas and music artist, Sharon Cuneta. At the start of the pandemic, Emelita also taught herself how to navigate social media and applications including Facebook Messenger, and frequently connected with her children, grandchildren, siblings, relatives and friends.
She is survived by her husband Larry Joseph Gernonimo Aquino and their 3 daughters and 8 grandchildren, as well as by her mother, Zoila & 8 siblings & their spouses, 23 nieces and nephews and 29 grand nieces and nephews. Following are her daughters and their families: Laureene Michelle Aquino Sardon & husband Alex Sardon & 4 daughters: Alyssa Lori Jane (18), Ashley Kay Renee (15), Allison Kate Sophia (9) & Annika May Nicole (7); Laurice Elaine Aquino Ong & husband Christian Ong & 3 sons: Reese Rylen (10), Ethan Christian (7) & Isaiah Louis (2); Laurilin Aquino Barrera & her husband, Jeremiah Barrera & son, Arthur Benjamin (2).
Following are her surviving siblings and their spouses: Rey & Marilyn Mindoro; Petronilo & Bella Sta. Agueda; Rolando & Myrna Garilao; Gerardo & Bernadette Ramos; Alfonso, Jr & Maria Theresa Aure; Enrico & Edeliza Aure; Rommel & Mia Aure; Roy and Cynthia Dumagpi.
