Evangelina Obedoza Santos was born September 17, 1937 in Talabutab Norte, Philippines to Ambrocio and Carolina Obedoza. The second eldest of eight surviving children, she was raised in the Philippines along with her siblings Erlinda, Vivencio, Abelardo, Florencio, Estelita, Norma and Joel.
Evangelina was blessed with two children Dolores Ann Santos and Christie Joy Santos. Later in life, she received the joy of six grandchildren and one more on the way.
Fortunately, Evangelina enjoyed what she did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Evangelina worked diligently and did her best to succeed in her career. Evangelina was employed as a Critical Care Nurse for 39 years. One of her many accomplishments was being the first in her family to graduate from college. She attended Mary Johnston College in Manila where she graduated in 1960 with a degree in Nursing. There she made lifelong friendships which she treasured and held close to her heart. She came to the United States in the 1960’s to do what she knew God had planned for her.
Evangelina enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various activities including, cooking, gardening, reading, playing slot machines, crocheting, game shows and most of all enjoying her grandkids. She loved being a nurse and always put her family ahead of herself. She never forgot where she came from and her hard work ethic, humbleness and generosity were felt through many generations of the Obedoza family as well as through friendships and colleagues.
Evangelina left us on April 13, 2012. She passed away at UCSD Medical center in San Diego, California. She is survived by her daughters, Dolores Ann Santos Tabago and Christie Joy Santos Ashby. Her grandchildren, Ryan, Alec, Angelina, Joshua, Rainer and Riley. Her siblings, Erlinda, Vivencio, Abelardo, Florencio, Estelita, Norma and Joel. Services were handled by Glen Abbey Mortuary. A Funeral Mass was held at Clairemont Christian Fellowship on Saturday, April 28, 2012. Evangelina Obedoza Santos was later laid to rest at Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita, California.
God had a plan for Evangelina and she fulfilled it to the best of her abilities until the day she joined Him in heaven. Her memory will continue to guide those that love and knew her. May she rest in peace and be remembered in our hearts forever.
