

God sent Evelyn Miller into the world on Oct 4, 1925 and called her home on Jan 21, 2026 at the age of 100 years. Born and raised in Knox County, KY, she was a daughter of Chester and Nannie (Morris) Payne. A 1942 graduate of Barbourville High School, she also attended Union College.
Evelyn was united in marriage to Robert M Miller of Barbourville, KY in 1947. They moved to Chula Vista, CA in 1948 and she worked 20 years in banking. Prior to her retirement in 1986 she was an Eligibility Supervisor for the County of San Diego. Evelyn made beautiful quilts and clothing, was a wonderful cook, enjoyed chocolate, had a feisty spirit, loved her people and carried Kentucky on her heart always.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter Pati (Frank) Greiner of Alliance, OH and Spring Valley, CA; grandchildren, Adrienne of Alliance, OH; Erin of Laguna Beach, CA; Frank (Jenna) of Alliance, OH; Robbie (Christine) of Chesapeake, VA; great-grandchildren, Tristan, Frankie, Chloe, Olive, Annabelle, Vincent, Lily, William, Thomas and Violet Greiner. She was preceded in death in 2014 by Bob, her husband of 67 years; her parents; sister, Nola (Oliver) Williams; and bothers, Glen; Clifford (Irene); and Harold (Aline) Payne.
A gathering meal to celebrate Evelyn’s life will shared Feb 11, 2026 at Say You’re Home in La Mesa, CA, where she was blessed to reside the last three years. Her family is so very thankful for the wonderful caregivers at that residence as well as her hospice team from AccentCare of San Diego who joined us in loving her through her final years with dementia. Evelyn’s ashes will be buried in a private ceremony on Feb 13, 2026 in Glen Abbey Memorial Park, Bonita, CA.
