She was born on April 4, 1932, in Tondo, Manila, Philippines to her parents Leoncio Alquiza and Teofila De La Cruz and lived in La Loma, Quezon City, Philippines. Flotilda was the loving mother to six children- Alejo Jr., Flora, Alphy, Leoncio, Faye, and Albert. She was blessed with nine grandchildren- Jaclyn, Brandon, Stephen, Kaitlin, Clairese, Christopher, Alexander, Christine, and Izabella. Her great-grandchildren brought light and purpose to her later years- Asha, Reef, Ivy, Clay, and one on the way.
“Flo” to many of us lived a full and active life alongside her husband, Alejo Quintos Sr., who served in the United States Navy and preceded her in death. Their last big celebration together was their 70th wedding anniversary in 2021. Today, September 15, 2025, marks their 74th wedding anniversary.
Flo worked as a dining room supervisor for the Naval Air Station North Island club and the Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado, California. She retired in September 1992 and was fortunate to go to work and get a glimpse of the bay and ocean views in Coronado. Flo was a faithful member of the Filipino American Association at St. Rose of Lima in Chula Vista, California and an avid member and president of the Samahan Senior Center in San Diego, California. Flo and Al were one of the original co-founding association members of the La Paz Association of San Narciso, Zambales here in San Diego.
Traveling abroad with friends and family was a testament to her adventurous heart. She enjoyed her life-long friendships with her extended family, the Sumpungin. She had a gift of working with her hands and her heart. Whether she was sewing, crocheting, or growing her beloved flowers and vegetables, she poured care and patience into everything she did. She loved entertaining and her cooking was incomparable. She will be remembered for her warmth, wit, and spark. She was smart, strong, ahead of her time, and always dressed her best.
Though she is gone from our sight, her spirit echoes in every moment of love, laughter, and kindness we share. She lived with energy, purpose, and a spirit that never slowed down. She leaves behind not just memories, but a legacy of love that will live in us all forever.
