Gary L Studlien

November 4, 1947 - January 13, 2020

Gary Studlien passed away at home in Bonita, California on January 13, 2020. He fought for years with a respiratory illness.

Gary was the youngest of nine children. His parents were Nels Studlien and Judith Sandvik Studlien, both from North Dakota and were second generation from Norway. Gary was born in Mayville, North Dakota on November 4, 1947. The family lived in North Dakota, Colorado, Minnesota and then permanently moved to Massachusetts in 1961. Gary served in The Naval Air Reserves out of Weymouth, Massachusetts as an aircraft mechanic from February 1967 to November 1972. At the young age of 20 years old, Gary was a line manager at an electronics manufacturing company in Acton, Massachusetts. Then he worked as a journeyman to become an Electrician. Ultimately he started up his own very successful business as a General Contractor in California.

Gary married Denise Mahoney in 1968. They had three daughters; Renee, Michelle and Elise. After surviving the winter of 1978, they moved to Bonita, California. Gary and Denise divorced in 1992. Five years later, he married his second wife Corinne DeLegge in 1997 and was widowed in 2007.

Gary is survived by his eldest daughter, Renee Jane Studlien Knudson, (son-in-law Todd Knudson) and grand-daughter Madison Jane; middle daughter Michelle Rachel Studlien Janzen, (son-in-law Michael Janzen), and grand-daughters Sydney Noel and Ashley Nicole; and youngest daughter Elise Sara Studlien Walker. In addition, he is survived by his first wife and best friend Denise Mahoney Studlien. He is also survived by brother Earl Studlien (and sister-in-law Joan); sister Fern Studlien Fugleberg-Rotto; brother Vance Studlien (and sister-in-law Phyllis); sister Deloris Larson; brother Gene Studlien (and sister-in-law Susan); aunts, cousins, many nephews and nieces.

Gary enjoyed fishing, boating, stockcar racing events, camping and many road trips. He would also never turn down an invite to visit a casino. Above all else, spending time with his family and friends was his favorite thing to do.

Gary was preceded in death by sister Carol Studlien; sister Donna Studlien Prichard and brother Dennis Studlien.
