Hawaii on June 4th, 2021, two weeks shy of her 86th birthday. Gladys
was born to Kenson and Kiyo Kaneshiro on June 17, 1935 in Maui,
Hawaii and was raised in Oahu, Hawaii.
As a young girl she loved to follow baseball teams which continued into
adulthood with her beloved Padres. In high school, Gladys lived with a
family and cared for their children to support herself. Gladys graduated
from Castle High School in 1953 and in 1955 she married Richard Farias
Pacheco, who preceded her in death in 2018.
As a young mother of 2 toddlers, Rick and Clyde, she and Richard
moved to Spring Valley, California, where Steve and Cynthia were born.
Gladys was a dedicated mother to her children. When her boys were
young she was the score keeper at the Little League games and Richard
coached. She was a stay at home mom until her youngest went to high
school. Gladys worked as a print machine operator for PB Systems Inc.
for 26 years, retiring in 2000.
Richard and Gladys loved to visit family in Hawaii over the years.
They also enjoyed going to Las Vegas with her sisters and their spouses
but Bingo was her passion. She loved to go to the local casinos to play
several nights a week. She and Richard went on several cruises. For
their 50th wedding anniversary, the family took them on a cruise to
Alaska.
Gladys also loved to bowl, garden and was an excellent cook. She loved
to spend time with her grandchildren. She was the best Grandma.
Family was very important to Gladys, she never missed a birthday,
always giving a personal gift to each and every family member and their
spouses. Gladys also had the gift of gab, spending hours on the phone
with her sister in law, Lucy and her daughter in law, Joey.
Gladys moved back to Hawaii two years ago and lived with Clyde and
family to be closer to her sons, sisters and extended Ohana. All would
gather at Aunty Kay’s house for Sunday dinners making beautiful
memories. We will never forget her generosity, tenacity, wit, charm,
grace and undying love of family and friends. She will be greatly
missed.
Family is requesting Aloha Attire. Please feel free to share your
memories of Gladys.
