Guillermina Valdez

Guillermina Moreno Valdez was born on June 25, 1933 to Pedro Moreno Gonzalez and Guadalupe Pereyra Moreno in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. She was raised along with 11 sisters, Aida, Ana, Dolores, Luz, Magdalena, Lupe, Rosa, Lucia, Enriqueta, Alejandra, Gloria and 3 brothers, Pedro, Cesar and Jose Luis.

At the age of 14, Guillermina met and fell in love with Julian Huizar Valdez and the couple happily exchanged wedding vows on February 24, 1952. The wedding ceremony was held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in San Diego, California. Guillermina and Julian were blessed with five children, Julian, Jorge, Guillermo, Antonio and Leticia. Later in life they received the joy of 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Fortunately, Guillermina enjoyed what she did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Guillermina worked diligently and did her best to succeed in her career. Guillermina was employed for Safeway and Vons grocery stores for more than 25 years. She was a good daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend. Always ready to lend a hand. She was a devoted Catholic all of her life. She was called the “brain” of the family because she was a very smart lady. She was an excellent student and finished her American school in half the time.

Guillermina enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various activities including growing Roses. Guillermina was always happy and willing to share her interests with others. She and Julian were very adventurous couple and loved to travel.

Guillermina left us on May 6, 2012. She passed away in San Diego, California due to end stage Dementia. She is survived by one brother, Cesar, seven sisters Ana, Dolores, Luz, Magdalena, Lucia, Enriqueta and Gloria. Four sons, Julian, Jorge, Guillermo and Antonio (Sandra) and a daughter Leticia. Her 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Services were handled by Glen Abbey Mortuary. A Funeral Mass was held at Mission San Diego de Alcala on May 11, 2012. Guillermina Valdez was later laid to rest at Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita, California.
