

Gwendolyn Johnson Nathan was born on March 15,1950 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late John Henry Johnson and Roberta Rena Mae Johnson. Gwen fought to the very end. She passed away with her children holding her and standing by her side as she made her transition into heaven July 6, 2025 in San Diego, CA.
Our beautiful mother is preceded in death by her brother Johnny Johnson, and her sister Alberta Johnson-Curry of Jacksonville, Florida. She is survived by her five children, Kimberlyn, Shirlynn, Billy Jr., Andrea, and Bryan as well as her grandchildren, Zachary, Elijah, Xavier, Lea Monet, and Larissa.
of San Diego, California; also siblings Lazarus Johnson and Roberta Johnson as well as a host of nieces and nephews all natives of Jacksonville, Florida.
Gwen received her formal education from William M. Raines High School. She was a strong stay-at- home mother until she eventually accepted a position working for the City of San Diego in Parks and Recreation where she retired after dedicating twenty years of service.
Gwendolyn a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and best friend was very sassy in her own sweet way. Her laugh was beautiful to hear and her smile was lovely to see. The love she had for her children and grandchildren was unparalleled. She was an exceptionally generous individual, always prioritizing the well-being of her family above her own needs.
Gwen loved spending time with her family, cooking, shopping, listening to old school music, watching her favorite television shows, and discussing politics. The love Gwen displayed for her family never fell short. She was the best mom anyone could ever ask for. She will be forever loved and missed dearly by her loving family and friends. She is forever strong, forever beautiful, and forever graceful in this life and will be in the next, until we meet again.
