

Jose was born in Santa Cruz, Zambales, Philippines on December 15, 1925 to Anselmo and Dolores De Gracia Mia.
As a young man during WW2, Jose fought side by side with U.S. Forces against the Japanese invasion of the Philippine Islands as a member of a Philippine Guerrilla Unit, Subic Sector. Shortly after the Japanese surrender, he joined the United States Navy serving on board numerous U.S. Navy warships. After serving a highly successful 20 year career, he retired in 1966 achieving a rank of Petty Officer First Class.
He "retired" again from the civilian sector as a government employee at North Island. His final retirement was with Rohr Industries in Chula Vista, California.
Jose loved music, dancing, and spinning records as a DJ at parties and gatherings. He was a skilled home handyman, electrician, and automotive mechanic. An avid reader and meticulous note taker, he also loved watching the San Francisco 49ers during their championship years. He was passionate about his family, his country and education. "You are never too old to stop learning" and "If you're going to do something, do it right the first time" were two of his favorite sayings.
He is survived by Veronica, his loving wife of 65 years, his brother Rodolfo, his sister Alejandra, 5 children, 10 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
