On March 24, 2014, our loving mother and grandmother passed away from her battle with cancer. She rejoins her father and mother, Karl and Maxine Bennett in heaven.
Born in Joliet, Illinois on October 9, 1949, Karla moved to San Diego, CA as a young child and she attended Kearny High School.
Karla is survived by her son Tom, his wife Dina, and grandchildren Hailey and Ella; daughter Kim and her partner Karen, as well as extended family. Karla was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
During Karla’s married life as a Navy wife she traveled with her family to many parts of the world, teaching her children to love the outdoors and find happiness in simple things. Eventually, Karla and her family settled back home in San Diego.
Karla enjoyed working outside of the home and her work ethic ensured her business endeavors were successful. She took great pride in making sure the job was done right!
Karla had an adventurous spirit, up for most anything. A tremendous athlete, she enjoyed sports and then loved to support her children and grandchildren in their adventures. It was customary to see Karla as a passenger or in the driver seat off-roading, camping, traveling and going to the beach. She tended to a lovely garden of roses, knitted and quilted perfect blankets and enjoyed hosting family get-togethers, where left-over care packages were abundant.
Karla carried strong values throughout her life, cherishing her parents, sister Eleanor and brother Randy. Her commitment to family never wavered, and this has been instilled in her children.
Her blue eyes, brilliant smile, lighthearted nature and willingness to be silly are forever in our memories. The sacrifices she made were an expression of her deep love for family and she never asked for anything in return. When she called you a friend, you were a friend for life. She cared for others and found peace and happiness in helping others. Most of all, she cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren.
Forever in our hearts, we walk on with your gentle, caring spirit upon us. We will always hear your laughter and feel your warm hugs until we see each other again.
