He graduated from San Diego’s St. Augustine High School in 1959, and from Pepperdine College of LA with a Business Degree in 1963. He served a total of six years in the US Airforce and reserves. He then worked 30 years for the American Business Service.
In 2009, Ken suffered a stroke, and from then on lived with various members of his family in San Diego. This was possible by the generous and caring hearts of Virginia and Ron Noyes, who welcomed him into their home, providing him friendship, love, and a safe, warm home to rehabilitate.
As part of his rehabilitation, he learned to take the bus, and he attended the Brain Injury Program at San Diego Mesa College for several years, which greatly benefitted him, and contributed to maximizing his recovery.
Ken was loved and cared for by his caregivers, Gregory and Theresa Currier, Virginia Noyes, Michael and Andrea Currier, Frannie, Nubia, and Reina, and also, Sukhi and Jay.
Ken related to the world in many ways, but especially through photography. He was always up for taking pictures at family outings and local trips. He also loved going to the movie theaters, and every movie was in his opinion “excellent, of course!”. Ken was an especially kind person in that he never had an unkind word for others, and he was the ultimate optimist, living with a positive state of mind every day.
Ken’s life was greatly enriched by the giving care he received while living with Michael and Andrea Currier. His caregivers, Frannie, Nubia, and Reina, brought joy to his life with numerous outings to the movies, feeding the ducks, and going to places about town.
Ken was loved for his gentle soul, appreciated for his gift of photography, and known as the family’s “pet whisperer”, for no matter where he lived, the household pets would soon claim Ken as their favorite.
He is survived by several cousins in his family, some of which live out of state including Patricia and Timothy Stanley. Ken is preceded in death by his cousin David Stanley. Also, he is survived by his longtime good friend from college days, Richard Ryans. Ken was especially close to friends Rick and Paula Tanner. Rick and Ken went on many trips to the desert, photographing the landscape, flowers, and towns. Rick has since passed away, and was missed by many in our family, especially Ken. Ken is also preceded in death by his friends Nick Jappe and Ron Noyes. Ken is survived by his good friend and movie buddy, Virginia Noyes.
He will be laid to rest on March 7, 2021 at Glenn Abbey Cemetery in Bonita, CA, with military honors, and a Catholic blessing from Father Emmet Farrell. The gathering will begin in the Chapel of the Roses at 10 am, and then followed by the graveside service at 11 am. Pallbearers will be Gregory Currier, Michael Currier, Todd Currier, Edward Siefken, James Siefken, and Nathan Siefken. To provide care and protection to the family and friends attending, and to the surrounding community, this will be a covid-conscious event, including masks and social distancing.
The family of Ken sends a warm thank-you to Sharp Hospice and to Chhina’s Senior Guest House, for providing excellent care to Ken, and for allowing him to have a gentle and peaceful passing.
