

Matilde was born on October 19, 1936, in Caimanera, Cuba. Her early life in Cuba shaped her into a woman of faith, resilience, grace, and strength. In 1958 she married the late Edward James “Gene” Travers and made a life for herself and her family in the United States, bringing with her the warmth of her culture and an enduring love for those she held dear. She was a 60 year resident of San Diego county.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, Matilde will be remembered for her spirit, her generous heart, and the deep, unwavering care she gave to everyone around her. Her home was a place of comfort and love, where family and friends always felt welcomed and supported.
She is survived by her two sons Scott (Robbin) Travers of Waxhaw, NC, Steven (Selina) Travers of Chula Vista, CA and four grandchildren Mitchell (Scottsdale, AZ), Cameron (Costa Mesa, CA), Andrew (Waxhaw, NC) and Nathan (Waxhaw, NC) who will carry forward her legacy of compassion and strength.
Services will be held to celebrate her life and the many ways she touched the lives of those around her.
A viewing / rosary service will be held at Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita on November 6 from 5 to 9 pm.
The funeral mass will be held at the Church of Most Precious Blood in Chula Vista on November 7 at 11am, with burial at Miramar National Cemetery immediately following the funeral mass.
Matilde’s memory will remain a blessing to all who knew her. Though she is no longer physically with us, her spirit lives on in our hearts, in our stories, and in the love she shared.
