Louie was born on December 13, 1954, in Paradahan, Tanza, Cavite in the Philippines. In 1974, he joined the U.S. Navy as an enlisted sailor, and later became a Naturalized U.S. Citizen in the U.S. District Court of Portland, Maine. He would go on to travel all over the world for many years as a Navy Machinist’s Mate, eventually reaching his final duty station in San Diego, CA assigned to the USS Acadia (AD-42). In 1985 and while in San Diego, he retired from the Navy with disability after his bout with kidney failure.
He spent the rest of his life being a loving and devoted husband, father, friend, and family member. Until his sons could drive, he made sure his kids were dressed up and ready to take them to school. He also made sure there was food ready to eat on the table when his wife and kids came home. Family and friends will always remember fondly his skills as a cook and especially his kare-kare, bistek, and pinakbet dishes.
In addition to cooking, he was a natural conversationalist. He was never shy to pick up the phone or log in to Facebook Messenger just to call and catch up with one of his family members or friends. His dialysis nurses speak fondly of his impeccable memory and how easily he could fill up the time. He was never short on stories to tell and naturally found ways to make them laugh and smile. His engaging stories and presence will truly be missed.
Louie is survived by his wife Eduarda and two sons, Eldridge and Andrews. He is also survived by his mother Narcisa, along with his five sisters and three brothers, Erlinda, Normita, Azucena, Hilda, Julie, Romulo, Rodolfo, and Abelardo Jr. He was predeceased by his father, Abelardo Sr.
The family has scheduled funeral services across three days, May 17th - 19th, 2023. Please see the full schedule below.
