Luis M Porto

Luis Manuel Porto was born on January 24, 1965 on the island of Terceira in the Azores Islands, Portugal. His father Manuel was working at the US Air Force Base on Terceira and his mother Maria was a homemaker. His sister, Ana was born two years later so Maria and Manuel made the decision to move to the United States in 1971. Luis was raised in Point Loma for the first six years, and then in Chula Vista, additionally with the birth of his sister, Elizabeth. He was a creative, intelligent, young man and he loved the outdoors.

Luis graduated from Marian Catholic High School in 1984 and went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish from San Diego State University in 2000. While in college, Luis worked a variety of jobs, and his favorite was working as a car salesman for Ford. He met Stephanie, his girlfriend of 10 years and they enjoyed many special times together. He worked as a substitute teacher and bought his first home in 2009. Luis loved listening to music, playing basketball, drawing, classic rock and classic cars. Despite his many health challenges and strokes, he was brave & enjoyed each day to the fullest. He loved family BBQ celebrations, especially with his Godchildren, Nathan, Lauren and Jackson.

On March 10, 2023, at the age of 58 years old, Luis passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. He was an inspiration to us all & he will be watching over us, happy and healthy. Luis is survived by his mother, Maria Regina, his sister Ana & husband Jim, his sister Elizabeth & husband Travis, and his Godchildren Nathan, Lauren & Jackson. Rest in peace Luis.
