Magdalena was born on July 7, 1933 in Pasay City, Philippines to Faustino Mendoza and Tomasa Noble Franca.
She attended dressmaking school as a young woman, and became a very accomplished seamstress. (Many times my sisters and I would come from school to find a new dress. She was able to create clothes without a pattern! I often would show her an outfit from 17 magazine and find it on my bed the next day!)
Married the love of her life, Robert H. Marshall, on February 23, 1952. Robert and Magdalena were married for 60 years, before his death in 2012.
Magdalena first came to the United States in 1959. She traveled with her three small girls to join her husband who was stationed in San Diego.
Magdalena loved to dance and performed filipino folk dances with her daughters.
Proudly became a United States citizen in June 1967. She would often study alongside her children while they did their homework.
As a military wife, she traveled with her husband to his duty stations and subsequently lived in Coronado, California; Millington, Tennessee; Sunnyvale, California; and Lemoore, California. After Robert’s retirement from the navy, they moved to San Diego.
Magdalena (nena) was a homemaker and wife. Her life was centered on caring for her family and home. She loved all of her family and friends and will be deeply missed by all of us.
