Her family settled in a small town in northern California called Yreka. Margaret was raised on a farm and would often tell us stories of how she cut and raked hay, fed and milked the cows and doing what she loved most, riding horses! She attended school in Yreka from Kindergarten through High school, and was honored Valedictorian. Upon graduating from high school, she worked as a legal secretary from 1940-1942 for Fred Burton Jr. She then worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture from 1942-1947, and the Automobile Club from 1947-1949.
Margaret met Fred Baumann through family friends. After meeting only a few times and writing many letters to one another they married on August 7, 1949, at which time they moved to San Ysidro, California. They began their family with the birth of their son Freddie, born in 1951 and the following year the birth of their daughter Peggy, in 1952. They were extremely hard working. They were in the wholesale florist business until 1955. Soon after Fred and Margaret owned and ran a successful egg ranch until they retired in 1973.
They loved traveling all over the U.S. and even took a Caribbean Cruise. Margaret was very active in the San Diego County Swiss Club and was Secretary and Treasurer for a number of years. Her hobbies included bowling and playing cards. She was especially fond of playing the Swiss Card game Yass.
Margaret passed away on March 6th, 2016 at the age of 93. She lived a long, happy life and will be truly missed. She is survived by her son, Freddie and his wife Beatriz; her grandson Freddie Jr. and his wife Melanie; her granddaughter Diana; and two great granddaughters Olivia and Samantha. Her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren were the loves of her life.
