Maria Sahagun Guerrero was born August 29, 1926. The youngest of four sisters, Albina Fontanres, Emiliana Fontecha and Placida Ferrer. Her parents were Flaviano Sahagun and Marcelina Navarro, both from San Felipe, Zambales.
Grandma Mary was introduced to Grandpa Leon by Nicholas Cachaper. They would pretend to buy goods like “abal-abal” from Apo Ponsa just to see Grandma. Grandpa Leon joined the US Navy and they continued their correspondence. In 1950 Grandpa Leon asked Grandma Mary to marry him, however Grandma stated she needed to finish high school first - so Grandpa had to wait. A week after high school graduation, Grandpa Leon asked Grandma again if she would marry him - and on May 21, 1950 they were married.
2 years later, when Grandpa was stationed in Cavite Grandma was able to join with him. That was when my mom Susan was conceived. 2 years later he was stationed in Subic Bay and they had my Auntie Nancy and Auntie Ester - both of whom Grandpa named. Grandpa really wanted a boy so they tried again 2 years later and got Auntie Maricel. And so grandma and grandpa were blessed with the 4 sisters.
In September of 1980 Grandma and Grandpa migrated to the United States to join their daughters and grandsons. Between 1980 to 1992 Grandma and Grandpa enjoyed a life together with their daughters, son-in laws, and 7 grandchildren. In 1992 Grandpa Leon passed away from Lung Cancer.
Grandma Mary missed grandpa dearly after his passing, however we kept her very busy over the last 12 years. She has been able to celebrate with us the marriage of 5 of her grandchildren. Me to my wife Kristine. My brother Leomar and his wife Karen. My cousins, Nanette to her husband Norman - Sean to his wife Andrea and Elaine to her husband Joey. She has also been able to meet and play with her 6 great grandchildren; Kailey, Kyler, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Elijah & Greyson.
