Mark Burry was many things. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, cousin, and a loyal friend. He was a Naval officer, pilot, flight Instructor, Vietnam veteran, entrepreneur, business owner, and community leader. He loved beauty and appreciated it in all things from a well designed car, to the hand painted artworks of his mother in law Ellie, to the red rocks of Utah, to the antics of his little tuxedo cat Missy, to the delicious meals prepared for him by his wife Pat.
But in reality he was “the Rocketman" - a brilliant, sparkling soul adventuring his way through life and this world. A fan of Science fiction for all of the possibilities that innovation could bring mankind, who taught his daughters to love Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers, and John Carter of Mars. He was a visionary who worked tirelessly to make his dreams come true. He never did any less than his best in any situation. Quick witted, he was always prepared with a joke or a story to make people laugh. He saw it as his job to brighten the space and those around him, to always leave things better than he found them. And he succeeded in that. All of us who were lucky enough to have known him are better for it.
Godspeed Rocketman. We miss you more than words can ever express. Our comfort is in knowing you are on to your next big adventure.
