Mark was preceded in death by his father, Cleo Lee Dawson, his mother, Edith May Dawson and his sister, Rhonda Dawson.
Mark was born August 27, 1962 in San Diego to Cleo Lee and Edith May Dawson. He had two siblings David Dawson and Rhonda Dawson. He grew up in Jamul, CA and went to Valhalla High School in El Cajon, CA. Although as a Southern California boy, Mark spent 2 years in North Dakota working as a ranch hand. This experience helped shape the hardworking man we know and love. Upon returning to San Diego, he worked in his father’s business creating custom furniture and eventually shared ownership of that business with his brother Dave. Mark loved horses, the Rodeo and Fishing. Especially fishing. Whatever mark loved he dedicated himself too. If it was Rodeo time he would breakout his cowboy hat and virtually live at the Rodeo grounds, if it was fishing, he would make every attempt to go where the biggest fish were biting and if Mark called you friend, you had a friend you could count on. Mark’s life changed in his early 40s and he started searching for the God that was instilled in him by his parents as a young man. He started attending Shadow Mountain Community church and soon became involved with Celebrate Recovery where he joined the leadership team. Mark started sponsoring men with drug and alcohol addictions. Mark valued hard work and personal responsibility. If those men could muster those qualities he would do everything in his power to help them recover and build a relationship with Jesus Christ. Eventually he was led to the Gideons. Mark dedicated himself to this task and worked tirelessly to deliver bibles to people in need. He did this until his health issues forced him to stop.
