

For the last 46 years Martha had been a resident of the city of El Cajon, CA. Martha was the 2nd to the youngest of 6 girls born to Jesus Sanchez and Maria Sanchez Quintanar. She grew up in Sunnyvale, CA and in Chalchiuites, Zacatecas Mexico. After living in Mexico for about 3 years she returned to Sunnyvale to reside with her older sisters. Martha worked with her sisters in a fruit cannery, Fish Cannery, Aircraft Factory and also a Walnut Factory. During slow times she would return to Mexico to be with her parents. About 1944 they moved to Tecate, Mexico where she met Arturo. Martha and Arturo lived in Tecate, Mexico until 1966 then they moved to Chula Vista, then to El Cajon, CA.
Martha and Arturo Chavez were married for 31 years. Arturo preceded her in death in 1976. Together they had 8 children, Martha Oswald (Nicky), Mary Helen Pochel (Nena), Arthur Chavez (Jr), Mary G. Lovato (Lupe), Mary A. Orozco (Tonie), Joe Chavez, Loreto Chavez (Tito) and Norma Caro. Martha is survived by three sisters, all who reside in Northern California Anita Ybarra, Mary Garcia and Alice Barrera. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Martha loved her family and prided herself as being a strong individual. She was a homemaker who cared for her family. Her belief in God and family will be a stamp in the hearts of all those who knew her. Martha enjoyed spending time with her sisters and playing cards, she loved traveling, reading, and long drives. She was also a story teller who swore she swam across the Sacramento River and danced the tango with Cesar Romero.
We are at peace knowing that our beloved mother is now at peace and in the loving arms with our dad, grandma and her sisters Belen Sanchez and Oliva Venegas.
