Nia Rose's story begins on November 14th, where her mother, Breanna Rodriguez's uterus erupted and resulted in Nia Rose balled into the stomach of her mother. Both mother and daughter were in critical condition, where it was too late for steroid and epidural shots to help both the mother and daughter heal afterwards.
Our sweet Nia Rose was a micro preemie that entered this world on November 15, 2021, at 23 weeks due to an emergency C-Section and weight 1lb. 6oz at Sharp Chula Vista. Upon birth, Nia Rose experienced bilateral grade 4 brain bleeds and developed hydrocephalus that caused severe damage to her brain. Right after birth, due to not being able to be transferred together, Breanna discharged herself out of the hospital and admitted to Sharp Mary Birch NICU to be with her daughter. Eventually, Nia Rose also developed a fungal infection on both sides of her back that required her to go through surgery a couple weeks after birth. Due to the hydrocephalus, Nia Rose required a shunt be out into her brain to drain the cerebral fluid to her stomach. Unfortunately, the shunt got an infection and surgery was required to remove it. Upon removal, an MRI was done, showing that due to the infection, she developed several large abscesses on her brain. This required three burr holes to be drilled into her skull to remove the abscess. Within a week of the surgery, the abscess came back, resulting in Nia Rose developing seizures and the return of the hydrocephalus. In addition, Nia Rose also needed patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) surgery to close a blood vessel to make sure her blood from her heart continues to flow through her body.
Through all of this, Nia Rose was surrounded by her loved ones constantly. Her mother, Breanna, spent every holiday with her and experienced all of the joys and sufferings. Making the decision to let her go was the hardest decision. On March 9th, 11:11, they released Nia Rose from her tubes and she peacefully passed the next morning at 2:15AM. She was surrounded by her loved ones, Breanna Rodriguez, Tyler Turner, Angelae Rodriguez, Nylah Rodriguez, Rosaland Turner, Webster Turner, Carina Rodriguez, Maria Rodriguez, Ruben Villareal, and both primary nurses, Michelle and Kristin. Nia Rose fought the good fight and finished the race. Her family is so proud and she will no longer be suffering. She will never be forgotten and forever will be loved.
