

Oscar Rivero Velasco, age 74, of Chula Vista, California passed away peacefully on Monday, November 22, 2021 surrounded by his loving wife and devoted daughters after a courageous battle with cancer. Oscar was born September 19, 1947 to Emilio and Flordeliza Velasco who both pre-deceased him. He grew up in Olongapo City, Philippines with his seven siblings Emma, Emilio Jr.,Teresita, Mercedita, Corazon, Andrew and Cecilia.
Educated at St. Joseph High School and MAPUA Institute of Technology, he was wise beyond his education, and people of all ages benefited from his counsel and advice. Oscar was an Apprentice Graduate at US Naval Base Ship Repair Facility and worked at SRF Shop 38 from 1968-1972.
On June 18, 1972 Oscar exchanged wedding vows with Rebecca at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olongapo City. They were blessed with two daughters Cinderella and Kristine May. Oscar along with his wife and children migrated to Dubai, U.A.E. He devotedly worked at McDermott as 3rd Engineer from
1976-1990. He also worked at Dubai Municipality as a Mechanic from 1990-1995. Oscar then decided to move close to his parents in Chicago, Illinois and worked at Bi-Link Metals as Building Maintenance from 1996-2000. He also worked at Saturn of Chicago as Mechanic from 2000-2003 and eventually moved to San Diego, CA. In San Diego he was given an opportunity to work at BAE Ship Repair Facility and NASSCO as Outside Machinist and retired in 2019.
He will be remembered for his unfailing work ethic, generosity and willingness to help anyone in need specially his parents and siblings. He was a gentle person, supportive father, caring grandfather and a loving husband. Besides spending time with his family and friends Oscar loved bowling, tennis and had a passion for music. He loved singing karaoke, being a DJ at parties and played guitar since college.
His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his adoring wife Rebecca Velasco; his children Cinderella (Arnold) Alonzo, Kristine May (Marco) Mendoza; his two grandchildren Abigail and Alex.
The family wishes to thank Glen Abbey Memorial Park and Mortuary, BonitaView Sharp Hospice Care for its thoughtful service, Masons of California-845 Black Mountain Lodge for their Masonic Funeral Service and Mater Dei Catholic Church for Oscar's Funeral Rite.
A visitation for Oscar will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Glen Abbey Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA 91902. A visitation will occur Thursday, January 6, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA 91902. A funeral mass will occur Friday, January 7, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Mater Dei Catholic Church, 1571 Magdalena Ave, Chula Vista, California 91913. A graveside will occur Friday, January 7, 2022 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Glen Abbey Memorial Park, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA 91902.
