She died peacefully surrounded by her family. Paula grew up in San Diego, Calif., in the Lomita Village area. She graduated from Morse High School in 1968. She married Frank Keesling, an electrician, in 1969, and they had two daughters, Leslie and Alyson. They parted in 1982 and she married John Wernecke in 1985. John was a fire captain and the love of her life. John and Paula had one daughter, Elizabeth. Paula worked in banking for several years and enjoyed traveling across the country with her husband and daughter. She volunteered her time with the Chula Vista Woman’s Club and the Burn Institute. Her hobbies included collecting Fenton art glass, quilting, crossword puzzles, reading, and bowling. But her passion was walking the beach and finding the perfect piece of seaglass. She is survived by her daughters Leslie (Mike) Filson, Alyson (Brad) Rodeheaver, and Elizabeth (Efrain Garcia III) Wernecke; her grandchildren Jacob, Gage, Isabel, Autumn, Johnny, Angelica, and Valentina; her siblings and their spouses, Linda and Steve Callanan, and David and Dana Doren; her nieces, Colleen, Stephanie, and Sarah; and nephew, Sean. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Wernecke; her parents, Edith, Jimmy, and Bill Gunter; and her brother, Johnny Gunter
