

Pelagia Bucsit Macogay was the youngest of seven children born to Dionisio S Macogay and Potenciana R Bucsit. She was born on January 24, 1942 at Guadalupe Viejo, Makati City, Philippines. She is survived by her sister, Concepcion, who is the eldest among the siblings. Her brothers Modesto, Irineo, Jose and Adriano and sister Felisa Macogay-Lachica were all deceased. She is also survived by cousins and many, many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews who live in San Diego, Hawaii, Middle East and the Philippines.
Peggy, as she is known to her friends, or Bebot to many of her relatives, lost her father at an early age. Dionisio was a World War II veteran. He died at the Bataan Death March and is being honored as a hero with his name engraved on the memorial walls of American Cemetery in Fort Bonifacio, Philippines. Her mother never remarried and had successfully raised all seven children by herself and made sure all her children either finished a course or graduated from college.
Peggy graduated from University of the East, Manila in 1965 with the Degree of Doctor of Dental Medicine. She was a dentist in the Philippines until she migrated to California, USA in the 1970’s. She completed a Dental Assisting Course from College of Alameda and also graduated with a Dental Hygiene Degree from Sacramento City College. She had at least 25 years experience as a Registered Dental Hygienist in California. She was a member of various organizations such as the University of the East Dental Alumni Association USA Inc, the American Federation of Foreign Dentists, the California Dental Association and the American Dental Association. She retired in 2007.
She was also a longtime parishioner of San Leander Catholic Church in San Leandro, California. She never failed to host a prayer meeting each year in honor of our Lady of Fatima. She became ill on New Year’s Eve and was later diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma on January, 2011 by the doctors at St Rose Hospital, Hayward, California. She was transferred to UC San Diego Medical Center, La Jolla, CA on January 23rd. She fought and battled this cancer for almost 2 months. She died at San Diego Hospice, San Diego and joined our Lord and Creator on Wednesday, February 23, 2011.
