Rebecca Rosario Tan, 68 years old, of San Diego, CA, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2017. She was born in San Carlos, Pangasinan, Philippines, on May 28, 1949; the third oldest and first daughter of eight children to Anacleto and Mercedes Rosario. While attending the National College of Business and Arts in Manila, she had the opportunity of appearing in two Sampaguita Pictures films as an extra. One film starred the famous Filipina actress, Susan Roces. She also became Miss Urbiztondo in 1969. Rebecca was married to the love of her life, a Navy Officer, Jesus Tan, on January 21, 1971. That same year, she followed Jesus to the U.S. seeking new adventures in Pensacola, FL, Norfolk, VA, and Corpus, Christi, TX, before settling in San Diego, CA, for the past 38 years. They were blessed with 46 years of marriage and five children, Roxanne, Roanne, Regina, Jeremy and Rochelle. For several years, Rebecca worked in administration for EDS and American Specialty Health, Inc while being a devoted and loving housewife and mother. During her spare time, Rebecca’s favorite interests included cooking, shopping, traveling, and decorating. She even took a course in interior design. She cooked extravagant meals (Sunday dinners at Mom’s) and enjoyed receiving praise for her cooking, which encouraged her to seek other recipes via TV and the Internet. She was a pro at bargain shopping, especially for designer bags and shoes. Her “adding machine,” the calculator, was always in hand literally. Traveling ventures ranged from Philippines, Europe, New York, Hawaii, cruises to Alaska and Cabo, tours to Russia and China, to simple family road trips (Vegas, Yellowstone National Park, Mt. Rushmore, etc.). But her greatest passion of all was spending cherished time with her family and friends.
A faithful Catholic attending Saint Charles Catholic Church since 1979, she found her true calling to serve and be closer to the Lord with the San Diego Temple Self-Realization Fellowship (Christian belief plus eastern meditation). She enjoyed dedicating her time with them, setting up and preparing for meals, especially arranging flowers. Meditation gave her serenity and peace discovering her spiritual self. She looked forward to attending the Annual Convocation. Over the years, she made friends who she loved as her own family. SRF gave her both peace and strength as she battled through life’s challenges, including cancer.
Rebecca is survived by her loving husband, Jesus G. Tan; daughters, Roxanne R. Tan-Quiambao, Roanne T. Rivera, Regina T. Almirol, Rochelle T. Hoffman; son, Jeremy R. Tan; son-in-laws, Benjamin Y.
