Born on July 9, 1927, in Cavite City, Philippines, Reynelda was the eldest of four siblings born to Milagros Jaramillo and Carlos De Guzman. Her early life in the Philippines shaped her into the resilient, compassionate, and loving woman guiding a vibrant family.
In 1979, Reynelda and her husband migrated to the United States, with their children later following. She found work in electronics as an assembler/technician, a career she eventually retired from to devote her time to caring for her grandchildren.
Reynelda was the devoted wife of Romualdo S. Magpantay, who preceded her in death in 2012. Together, they built a beautiful family, and a life filled with love and laughter. She was a loving mother to eight children: Carlos Magpantay (deceased), Carlota M. Pallesco, Romualdo D. Magpantay Jr., Maria Teresa M. Dull, Soledad M. Tan (deceased), Cynthia M. Pacle, Rosanna M. Fernandez, and Jocelyn M. Sta. Ines. She also embraced her stepdaughter, Ria Hughes, with open arms.
A deeply religious Catholic, Reynelda's devotion to her family remained constant throughout her life. She was a cherished member of The Los Chabacanos of Cavite City, an organization deeply rooted in the religious traditions of the Caviteños in the Philippines. Her faith is a cornerstone of her life, prominently displayed through her active participation in the annual celebration of the feast day of Nuestra Señora de la Soledad de Porta Vaga guiding the community through the solemn and beautiful 9-day Rosary/Novena prayers and procession, where the faithful honor the patroness of Cavite City. Reynelda's commitment to these spiritual practices not only enriches her own faith journey but also serves as an inspiration to her fellow members, fostering a strong sense of devotion that helped to keep alive the rich religious heritage and cultural traditions surrounding the Nuestra Señora de la Soledad de Porta Vaga.
She loves to travel with her children, and found joy in simple pleasures, particularly playing bingo and her favorite slot machines at the casino. Her humorous nature, marked by funny stories and distinct laughter, brought unending joy to those around her.
Her legacy extends to her cherished 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to her life. Reynelda was not only a beloved matriarch but also a dear friend to countless individuals, touching many lives with her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering spirit. Her home at Altamont Place in San Diego was always a welcoming hub for family and friends, filled with warmth and hospitality.
Reynelda will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her strength, her love, and her invincible spirit will forever live on in our hearts.
