Rosemarie Zerrudo Palencia was born on November 7, 1936 in Iloilo City, Philippines to Maria Del Rosario ”Charing” Saul Zerrudo and Jose Zerrudo. She was the sixth of seven children and the second daughter. As a young child, she and her family members were survivors of the Occupation of Japan during WWII.
On July 26, 1966, Rosemarie married Max Palencia who was serving in the U. S. Army. She became a devoted military wife as her husband’s duties took them to live in Taiwan; Guam; Monterey, California; Tacoma, Washington; and El Paso, Texas.
After her husband’s military retirement in 1974, they settled in San Diego where they purchased their house in Chula Vista and raised their three children. Rosemarie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She had excellent skills in cooking, baking, gardening, and sewing. It gave her a sense of joy and purpose to use her skills to help her family, friends, community and all those in need. She was involved in St. Pius X Catholic Church, Norman Park Senior Center, Oxford Seniors, Feeling Fit Club exercise classes at Loma Verde and Otay Recreation Centers, The Club Walk Program at Plaza Bonita, and Ocean View Church Senior Ministry.
Rosemarie is survived by her three children, Christine, Vincent, and Archie; their spouses Beth and Bart; granddaughters, Alyssa and Samantha; her youngest brother Tomas Zerrudo; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She passed away in her home early Monday morning on July 4th after many complications due to symptoms of Congestive Heart Failure. She was preceded in death by her husband Max Palencia. We will always love her and miss her and will keep her memory alive in our hearts.
