Scott Guthrie, 40, died peacefully in his sleep on July 6, 2011. He was raised in Chula Vista, California where he graduated from Bonita Vista High School in 1989 , attended UCSD , married Tamara Cablayan in 1993 and had three daughters.
Scott earned his B.A. in Business Administration in 2001 from the University of Phoenix and also obtained a multi-subject teaching credential from National University in 2002. For many years he worked as a financial advisor for Healthcare Management Systems and for a few years also found great joy and fulfillment in being a middle school Math teacher for Julian Charter School.
Once an avid triathlete, Scott made his family proud the day he completed the Oceanside Ironman in 1999. He loved nothing more than to go for long runs and bike rides. Yet, Scott’s biggest accomplishment and legacy that he leaves behind is his three daughters: Mackenzie, Zyla and Mikeili.
He had an immense pride and love for each of them and the girls as only a father could. He relished nothing more than to sit and talk with Mackenzie about school and high school sports; there was no topic that was ever off limits. He loved sneaking off to Petsmart with Zyla to see if they could finagle another pet for our house and he was in constant awe of how Mikeili’s over the top personality ever came from someone as shy as himself.
Scott meant different things to many people. He was a supportive husband, a loving son, a devoted father, “Scott-o” by his in laws, a steadfast and loyal friend, teacher, and a caring brother. We will forever miss his sly smile, quirky humor and his gentle spirit. Rest in Peace…W.L.Y.
