Severina L. Corado

Severina Lopez Corado was born on January 8, 1923 in Tacloban City, Philippines and has peacefully gone with the Angels on September 16, 2013 at 8:40 p.m. Severina was raised in Tolusa, Philippines and was the fifth child of six children born to Martin and Antonia Lopez. She married her soul-mate, Egmedio Corado on July 12, 1945. Shortly after in 1952, she gave birth to their first child Luz. They eventually moved to the United States and settled in San Diego to follow her husband who was enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the time. In years to come she gave birth to 3 more children in 1957 to 1959: Helen, Egmedio Jr., and Lilian. Mama loved her 11 grandchildren (Jaime, Roberto, Macario, Nicholas, Joshua, Jonathan, Ryan, Josielyn, Christian, Danielle, and Dominic) and her 7 great grandchildren (Jordan, Gabrielle, Michael, Nathan, Madison, Brianna, and Aislin. She was very proud of all of them.

She enjoyed the company of her close friends and gardening. Every Saturday, for almost 40 years, they would get together to talk, laugh, and eat until the next day. She loved to cook and would get compliments on her Siopao and Biko. We loved her pancit and lumpia and she always kept plenty of lumpia and siopao in the freezer so we can enjoy any time or she can bring to the next party. Her love for plants was phenomenal. She could grow any kind of plant in any weather because of her green thumb and love for the garden.

Vering was a member of the Visayan Circle, Samar-Leyte Association, and the Santo Nino of San Diego. In her golden years Mama loved to travel with Luz and Dwight, and enjoyed the visits to Las Vegas, Laughlin, and New Mexico. She enjoyed the attention and pampering from the many caring people in Arizona where she resided in her last few years.

Severina will be missed by everyone that has been a part of her life. We will miss her generosity, caring ways, laugh, jokes, and her “Oh My” and “That’s nice” answer when we told her stories.

We loved her and were happy to be with her in the end. Rest in peace, Mom.
