

Mr. Sofio D. Alegre was born on April 30, 1931 in Mendez Cavite, Philippines. He was the son of Primo Alegre and Placida Digos. Sofio was raised with six siblings. They were Celedonio, Felipe, Ben, Soledad, Migela, and Consolacion.
Sofio graduated from Tagataymendez Academy in 1947. He enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers.
On April 7, 1960 Sofio exchanged wedding vows with his sweetheart Ederlina Maraan in Mendez Cavite, Philippines. They were blessed with three children Alma, Alvin and Ellen. Sofio loved his family and did his very best to fulfill their needs.
Fortunately, Sofio enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Sofio worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. His primary occupation was serving for the United States Navy where he achieved the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. He later worked for The Lakeside Union High School District. He was employed for 20 years by the Navy and retired from active duty in 1975. He worked for The Lakeside High School District for 16 years.
Sofio enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. One of his favorite pursuits was cooking and he was famous for his "Steamboat". He loved horses, basketball, softball, spending time with friends, as well as growing fruits, vegetables, and orchids in his garden. He was content to enjoy his favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share his interests with others.
Sofio passed away on October 11, 2010 at Promise Hospital in San Diego, California due to complications after suffering a massive heart attack. He is survived by his wife, Ederlina M. Alegre and many other family members and friends. Services were held at The Little Chapel of the Roses on October 17, 2010. Sofio was laid to rest in Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita, California.
Simply stated, Sofio was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Sofio leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Mr. Sofio D. Alegre.
