

Sonia Orpiano Lapuebla was born on April 24, 1956 to Vicente Osias and Carmen Concepcion Orpiano in Sampaloc, Manila, and grew up in Pag-Asa, Quezon City in the Philippines. She is one of six sisters and one brother. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Marketing at Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
She met her husband of 47 years, J.R. Lapuebla, as a penpal and migrated to the US in January 1979. They had two children, Michael and Oliver Lapuebla, and were stationed in Guam, Northwest Cape Exmouth, Australia, and Yokosuka, Japan, before settling in San Diego, CA, after her husband retired as a Chief Warrant Officer.
Sonia worked at San Diego Community College District as a payroll technician and retired after 17 years of service. She spent her time traveling the world, ballroom dancing, and serving as an active parishioner of St Michael's Catholic church as part of Mother's Butler Guild (MBG), Extraordinary Ministers, and the Capital Campaign Fundraising Committee.
Sonia's passions were her children and grandchildren, who filled her life with pride and joy. She passed onto her family her devout faith, strong work ethic, and value of education. In addition, she was a shining example of kindness, compassion, responsibility, hard work, faithfulness, and selflessness.
Sonia is survived by her husband, J.R. Lapuebla; her two sons, Michael and Oliver; her daughter-in-law,Vanessa; and her three grandsons - Kanoa, Makaio and Maleko.
We pray that her beautiful soul is reunited with our Creator and embraced in His eternal love.
