I just love you coach! Thanks for everything!

Steve was my next door neighbor growing up in Bonita. We played together, fought, threw lemons at each other and did things kids do. I think he tried to drown me once in his backyard pool. Later in life we re-connected. We crossed paths when he was visiting his parents and I was home visiting mine. He had a tremendous memory about our two families growing up and conversations that took place between our fathers that I never knew. He was a great story teller and would stop by and talk for two to three hours telling me things that I never knew about my father and things he did. I really looked forward to his visits. The last one was not very long ago. I’m glad I got to see him and visit one last time. I will miss him greatly. He was a connection to my childhood that I valued. I think the tough playing we did as kids made me a tougher woman. He was a great kid that grew into a great man. Smart, honest, caring, world traveler, amazing woodworker, and he had a love for cats. He will be missed by me for the rest of my life. 

I don’t know how many people new that coach Stone was the head of a ski club at Hoover. At least when I was there from 84-88. In those four years we went all over, Mammoth, Vail, Keystone just to name a few.  I think this was the only time I ever seen him fall on skis. Boy could he fly down the slopes.

I don’t know how Coach Stone did it. He would work us so hard, but we loved every minute of it. Coach took you under his wing and really made you believe you could accomplish anything you put your mind to.  Work hard and never give up. Win or lose, he was always there to support you. Coach Steve Stone really set the foundation of who I am today. He was a great man that I will always love, respect, and never forget...

My condolences to the family. I had coach Stone for JV Football and Biology. He was a great person.He is missed. Hoover Cardinal forever 

Steve made Homeroom fun with his dry wicked sense of humor.  Just hanging out with him was fun.  I am glad he was able to pursue his love of science and travel and shared his knowledge and his athletic knowledge with new generations.  He will be missed but I have to believe he is on some exciting excursions.  Safe adventures my friend.

He was a great coach and teacher. Always encouraged us to do better. Fondest memory was a trick he would do putting dry ice in his mouth and blowing the vapor out his nose. Looking like a dragon.  Of course he said don’t try this yourself, I’m a professional with lots of practice. RIP 

I had the privilege to play for coach Stone. Unfortunately my playing days were short. I was gravely injured on October 2nd 1986 with a brain hemorrhage during a game. I spent six hours in what ended up being 1 of a dozen major surgeries. My chances of surviving the first surgery were very slim. 

I made it through that tragic event and worked hard in rehab to build myself back up. Although my football days were behind me. I stayed involved with the team. Coach always looked out for me. We always had a special relationship.

One day coach and I were talking and he said “Mike I almost quit coaching because of what happened to you.” That would have been unfortunate because coach stone was a great mentor to his student athlete’s. I’m glad he didn’t quit.

In 2019 I published a book about my life and injury. I wanted so much to give Coach one of my books. I think he would have enjoyed reading it and I believe he would have been proud of me. 

Thank you Coach Stone for being not only a great Coach but a father figure to us boys. Boys you helped shape in to great men. I love you Coach  rest easy. We’ll take it from here. See you on the other side soon.

I am so sorry for your loss. 

Coach Stone was one of the best teacher. Due to Coach Stone teaching and support, I am a Cardiac Nurse Practitioner. His biology class ignited my love for science. I remember he ran a tube that connected  to the faucet next to his desk, up the ceiling tiles right above my desk. Whenever I fall asleep in his class  (I was working two jobs to support myself), he would turn on the water   He was a great teacher.  He understood my home life situation and was always supportive. I love him for this. Thank you Coach Stone, you will be missed.  You made a difference!!

Amazing human.  He was a  big influence in my life. He instilled  to keep grinding when there was nothing left in the tank. 
Out smart, out whit your opponent. Don’t think about the current move prepare for the next. Be one step ahead at every opportunity. 
Every pillar mentioned above made me successful on the mat; but even more successful in life.  
They don’t build them like Stone anymore. The wrestling community lost a good one. However, he is in good company with some former wrestlers

Rest easy coach. Thanks for the memories. 

Coach Stone was my football and wrestling coach at Hoover HS. I graduated in 1988. My name is Paul Croas, and Coach Stone always called my “Krause” regardless if I tried to correct him, lol.  Since HS, I joined the Army and serviced in the famed 82d Airborne Division in combat operations in both Panama and the Gulf War.  I then became a veteran Police Officer in Houston, for the last thirty years. I absolutely credit Coach Stone, for giving me the ability to saving my life on numerous occasions with the skills he taught me at such an early age.  He’s still a cheater though, he used to rub his whiskers on your neck to get an advantage over you when you were wrestling him! Ouch, Couch, LMAO! Coach, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers! You are truly loved by all those lives you have touched! God Bless you and you Family! ~Krause!
