Born on a very hot day on the 28th of August, 1998 in Henderson, Nevada. She was released from the hospital on that very same day!
After 8 years in Henderson and a few years in Boulder City, Leslie and Sydney left Nevada and came to Coronado, CA where she attended a year of middle school and all of high school. She graduated from Coronado High School in 2016. In high school she developed wonderful relationships with her classmates, worked as a junior volunteer at the Coronado library and was an active member of the High School JROTC. Sydney went on to complete two and a half years of college at Cal State San Marcos with an eye toward entering the law profession.
Sydney loved animals. She named every bearing cow on her grandparent’s farm and would spend hours out there trying to get one to let her pet it. Later at home, her little French Bulldog, MoMo, was by her side day and night.
Sydney was dedicated to her family. Her mother, Leslie was her best friend. Her Grandma Glen was her travel mate and sidekick as she was working her way through life. She loved all of her surviving family - her parents (Justin Althof and Leslie Baker), grandparents (Ron and Glen Baker, Karen Barker), uncles (Steve Baker/Lilia Hawkins, David Baker/June Whiting), aunt (Tracy Althof) and all of her cousins (Michael Althof, Shelby Jo Hooper, Jake Hooper, Brianna Wolterman-Baker, Danielle Dieter and Clinton Baker).
Sydney was a member of an active family and loved it. She fished with her uncles, flew with her grandfather, ran 5ks and mud runs with her mother, and even hiked down the Grand Canyon to Havasupai Falls with her mother, her Aunt Tracy and Cousin Shelby Jo. She swam and canoed on the Colorado river spending countless hours romping with cousins. Sydney was also well travelled. She’d been to Hawaii, Mexico, Japan, France,Spain, Greece and, most recently, a trip to China with her grandfather in 2019.
Sydney was vivacious, active and worked hard to please. She cherished her friends and was loved dearly by those that knew her.
