Zosimo Datario Buada
December 22, 1923 – June 23, 2015
Zosimo “Tatay” Datario Buada passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 in San Diego, CA at age 91. He was born on December 22, 1923 in the province of Batakil, Pozorrubio, Pangasinan, Philippines. Zosimo was the second eldest son of Gerardo Araos Buada and Mercedes Lopez Datario, and is survived by his brother Felix Datario Buada (Stockton, CA), Lucia Buada Salcedo and Gloria Buada Dispo (Philippines). He attended Pozorrubio Central Elementary School and Lingayen High School, but because of the start of World War II, Tatay was not able to finish high school. From 1953 to 1959 he owned and operated one of the largest poultry farms in Pozorrubio. From 1960 to 1984 he turned to farming, planting crops by season including tobacco, rice, cotton and various vegetables to support his family and sending all of his seven children to school.
Zosimo married Marcela Calizo Fernandez on January 19, 1946 and is survived by his loving wife of 69 years and their 7 children (Demetrio, Delfin, Digna, Delicia, Dante, Daisylyn, Darilou), 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Since 1976, Zosimo has been a member of the Oneness Pentecostal Church and helped found the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Batakil with long-time friend, Rev. Carlos Grant. Having met during World War II, Rev. Grant retired from the US Army and returned to Batakil, Pozorrubio to bring the faith to the province. With the two pieces of land donated by Zosimo, Rev. Grant helped establish the First Apostolic Pentecostal Church, and shortly thereafter a second church. Both are located in Batakil, Pozorrubio, Pangasinan and are the first established Pentecostal Churches in the Philippines, which continue to thrive until today.
Zosimo arrived in San Diego, CA in 1984 and has been an active member of the South Bay United Pentecostal Church. Friends and family will always remember him as strong but silent, and even stronger in his faith. Zosimo was an avid participant when his family hosted Bible studies and always felt comfort and ease alongside members of his church.
He will be dearly missed by all of his family, friends and relatives in the Philippines, San Diego and abroad.
