Our beloved Sarah tragically lost her life in a head-on collision, through no fault of her own, while driving home from work on the evening of November 15th. The loving and radiant light she brought to everyone she touched was taken from this world in an instant, as her beautiful spirit returned to God. Though her time with us was far too brief, the love and joy she shared will remain with us.
Sarah was born in Dunedin, FL, and spent her early years in Hudson, FL, where her curiosity and drive to excel became evident. From mastering academics to testing her physical and mental abilities, she continually challenged herself throughout life. Sarah's warmth, patience, and boundless kindness touched everyone she met, and her compassion extended to all creatures, embodying a deep love for both people and animals. A champion of fairness, she stood firmly against injustice, often advocating for those overlooked or marginalized.
Sarah's connection to the water was unparalleled; she earned the affectionate title of "our little mermaid" after her first water experience at six months old. She found joy in battling Atlantic waves on her boogie board, swimming, and snorkeling in the Gulf's calmer waters. A lover of sunsets, seashells, and beach walks, Sarah cherished moments shared with her family by the sea. At age 10, her family relocated to Colorado’s majestic Rocky Mountains, where Sarah fell in love with hiking, zip lining, skiing, and playing in the snow.
Fueled by her passion for marine biology, Sarah returned to her family in Florida to pursue her education. However, her time spent living independently in Colorado after high school enriched her profoundly, strengthening her resilience and deepening the already strong bonds with her family. Sarah also dreamed of exploring the world with her passport in hand, and although her light was extinguished too soon, her radiant spirit and dreams continue to inspire all who knew her.
She is survived by her parents, Christopher and April Canalia; her older brothers, Ryan and his family, and Matthew and his family; her younger brother, Andrew; her grandparents, Linda J. Leonard, Corrine Avery, and Luciano Canalia; her uncle, Dean Canalia; and her cousins. She is also survived by her boyfriend, Bryce Chahanick, as well as a host of loving relatives and friends.
A gathering of friends and family for Sarah will be held Monday, December 9, 2024 at 12:30 PM at Hodges Life Celebration Center, 26051 S Tamiami Trail, Bonita Springs, Florida 34134, followed by a celebration of life at 1:00 PM.
