Christine Perrigo

Christine Virginia Hughes Perrigo, 80, entered Glory Saturday night, January 5, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville. She was born in Prentiss County on March 11, 1932, to John and Lydia Lauderdale Hughes. She was the youngest of eight children: the “babe” of one sister and six brothers, whom she loved dearly. She attended Pisgah School where she played basketball for Coach Dexter Jumper. She married Herschel Perrigo on February 9, 1949, and they were blessed to have six children. She worked for the Head Start Program for 40 years, beginning as one of their first employees. She was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who lived her life devoted to her family. She had a special love for animals which was evidenced in her humane spirit to all. She was known for her quick wit and dry sense of humor.

Funeral services will be at 1: 00 P.M. Monday, January 7, 2013, at the McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kerry Powell officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah Cemetery.

She is survived by two daughters, Paulette (Bud) Sims and Anita (Mike) Gardner; three sons, Jacky (Mary Sue) Perrigo, Don (Judith) Perrigo and Rocky (Felesha) Perrigo; 13 grandchildren, Ginger Farris, Kristi (Scott) Slack, Mikel Sims, Tawana (Brad) Nash, Kyle Sims, Justin (Molly) Perrigo, Coy Perrigo, Shawn (Tabitha) Perrigo, Samantha Perrigo, Brock Yates, Abbie Gardner, Kristen and Emma Perrigo; 14 great-grandchildren, Josh, Casey, Karli, Jackson, Greyson and Avery Farris, Anna Slack, Kaylee Beth Sims, Olivia, Carson, and Brody Nash, Dennis Perrigo, Kyler Sims and Caston Price; a special sister-in-law, Joy Osborn; and a host of other family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Herschel Perrigo; one son, William Hugh Perrigo; her parents; her in-laws, Elgie and Mary Tine Perrigo; her sister, Sulu Gardner; and her brothers, Goob, Charlie, Robert, Homer, Scrap and Hershel Hughes.

Pallbearers are Mikel and Kyle Sims, Shawn, Justin and Coy Perrigo, Brock Yates, Thomas Dewey Garner, Greg and Sam Hughes and Darrell Osborn.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Sunday and until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
