Dr. Dwight Allyn Johnson, 72, died Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was born November 23, 1945 to Alvia Demarcus and Ruth Faye Howell Johnson in Fairview, MS. He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and worked as an engineer for several years before returning to medical school. Upon completion of his medical training, he opened his first clinic in Booneville, MS in January 1976, and continued to serve the community as a medical doctor until his first stroke in 2016. He was a self taught pianist and loved all forms of music. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Booneville.
A Celebration of Life will be at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Jason Reed officiating. Burial will be in Gaston Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 32 ½ years, Brenda Davis Johnson; his children, Jennifer Ann (Eric) Greene of Atlanta, Christopher Allyn Johnson of Mooreville, Tracy (Ryan) Cornelius of Corinth and MSG John Brandon Guin of Fort Benning, GA; six grandchildren, Daniel and Roger Greene, Alyssa, Madeline and Jacob Cornelius and Cooper Guin; Brother, Dr. Charles (Martha) Johnson; many nieces, nephews, and their children and friend and employee, Martha Bell Shields, who was his first nurse when he began practicing in Boonville and was with him until the end.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation was Monday from 5-8. He will lie in state one hour prior to the service Tuesday, March 6, 2018
Pallbearers will be Phillip Young, Jeff Mincy, Jimmy Cobb, Dee Jenkins, Stephen Greenway, Paul Orton and Jamie Wanner.
