

Wesley “Harold” Echols, 87, of Booneville died Monday, January 28, 2013 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born November 20, 1925 in Eaton, TN to Ira and Fannie Mae Drumwright Echols and has been a resident of Booneville for 55 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He retired from Brown Shoe Co. and Litco Petroleum Co. He was known by many as “Mr. Quik”.
He was a Seaman First Class in the US Navy and a veteran of WWII. He served on the USS Florence Nightingale the entire war, fighting in both the European and Pacific Theaters of war. He certainly lived up to the reputation of America’s Greatest Generation.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Hankins and Bro. Doug Rakestraw officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Memorial Gardens.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Peggy Echols; two daughters, Donna (Ronnie) Burrage of Memphis and Susan (Jim) Pounds of Booneville; one son, Jerry (Debbie) Echols of Booneville; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; two sisters; and two brothers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one baby sister; and one brother.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Visitation will be 5-8pm Tuesday and until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church Boy Scout Troop 37.
