

Hubert McDaniel, 83, died Friday, August 19, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville. He was born December 26, 1927, in the Carolina community of Itawamba County to Denby M. and Veron Wilburn McDaniel. He attended Evergreen Grammar School, Itawamba Agricultural High School, and Itawamba Community College. He also took in-service training courses with the FBI, and supervision courses from the University of North Florida and Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He was a military policeman in the U.S. Army before being accepted into the Highway Patrol. He served the patrol for 30 years and achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. After retiring from the highway patrol, he worked part-time for the Soil Conservation Service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Booneville, serving in various positions of leadership, including as a Deacon and on the Building and Grounds Committee. He was active in the Booneville Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was the recipient of the Golden Spike Award as “Community Volunteer of the Year” by the Booneville Area Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed his family, working in his manicured yard and garden, playing an occasional round of golf, and having coffee with his friends. This kind, generous Christian gentleman will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 21, 2011, at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Lynn Jones, Dr. Bill Duncan and Rev. Glyn Wiygul officiating. Burial will be in Kirkville Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife Robbie Houston McDaniel; one son Giles (Deborah) McDaniel of Florence, AL; two grandchildren, Mary McDaniel of birmingham, AL and Warren McDaniel of Florence, AL; two brothers, Joe T. (Anne) McDaniel of Jackson, MS and Roland McDaniel of Nettleton; and two sisters, Rebecca (Rudolph) Pettit of Tupelo and Kaye (Ceburn) Gray of Nettleton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Trubert McDaniel.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
