

James Melvin Putt, 92, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at 5:42 pm at Landmark Nursing Facility. He was born August 14, 1923. He was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church for 65 years, serving as District Lay Leader, Sunday School Teacher, and Choir Director for many years. Melvin was an active member of the Masonic Lodge # 305 F & AM for 65 years. He served in various offices. He was a member of Chapter # 12 of OES for 64 years, serving in many capacities. He also served as Worthy Grand Patron of the State of Mississippi in 1973-74. He worked for GMO Railroad as a traveling auditor for 15 years. He retired from Booneville Hardware after 35 years of service. He served as secretary treasurer and later as president of the Booneville Hardware. He served as the Election Commissioner for 8 years in Prentiss County.
Services will be at 2:00 pm Sunday, February 21, 2016 at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Glover and Bro. Donnie Riley officiating. Burial will be in the Booneville Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Louise Windham Putt; one sister-in-law, Azell Windham; three nephews, Kirby (Kathy) Windham, Denny (Marilyn) Windham, and Guy Windham all of Booneville; one niece, Jamie (Wayne) Garner of Belmont; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Mable Spencer Putt; and one infant sister, Virginia Putt.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Whitehead, J.W. Jacobs, Wayne Owens, Jamie Holley, Mike Kelley, and Brad Holley.
Visitation will be 4-8 pm on Saturday, February 20, 2016 and until service time on Sunday at the funeral home.
