Always sad to lose a loved one. But what a great victory awaits this humble yet fruitful man of God. I remember very fondly the times he came and spoke where I preached and the great example he set in his life as well as his corny jokes.  You all in in my prayers!

Jeanita & Joyce -- I lived in your home growing up more than at my home.  Bro Thornton & Mrs. Thornton always looked out for me & I enjoyed trips with all of you - mission & to FHC.

I still have our wedding vows he typed up for us.

I know it was very hard for him to do mother's funeral -- so soon after your mom's.

I could always count on him listening to me and encouraging me.

He's in a better place - we can be thankful he is out of pain now!

We regret being out of town and unable to visit and share the passsing of a dear brother and preacher of the gospel. What a glorious message and life of brother Jean Thornton, he knew fully well that in Him we live and to God be the glory.

Brother J.A. was a bright shining light and a joy to work with.  Every time I saw him and asked how he was doing the reply was "On Top of the World"  Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

To the family of J. A. Thornton, we are thinking of and praying for you. My memories of brother Thornton are so rich. He always had a story, shared his materials, and himself. He gave his sermon outlines to me when I attended meetings he held. Usually he had a wonderful story of conversion or a handful of study materials, or both to give away. His presence was unmatched. One of the great experiences of my life was when he held a gospel meeting with us when I was preaching at Camden, TN. It would be hard to imagine a better representative of Christian character and gospel preacher. With that in mind, isn't it great to be "On top of the world." He will be greatly missed. We love you all,

When I first began preaching at the Zion Rest congreation I was a young, green preacher, but I had Bro. Thorton I could go to for anything- advise, a sermon, encouagement, or just someone to talk to. Bro.Thorton was a preacher's best friend. He helped me with my first funernal, help us establish our eldership, taught us a singing school, and so much more. He truly was "on top of the world" I loved him.

Bro Thornton was the force behind me returning to the church.  I last spent time with him on July 29, 1999, at Bea Estes home in New Albany for his birthday supper.  This is one man who taught me patience, love, respect for the Lord, and gave me many hours of lessons to reinforce my faith.  He knew my family and had a part in my aunt's funeral some 7 years ago.  Anyone who knew him felt blessed to be in his presence.  Now he is at rest and his love light will continue to shine in paradise.  I pray the Lord's blessings on each of you left behind. I have wonderful memories of Brother Thornton - our family has always thought the world of him and his family. I will never forget him baptizing me and his wonderful eulogies at mother and daddy's funerals. We have lost one of the greatest ministers, but heaven has obtained a wonderful treasure.

Joyce, I am so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. Long time since I have heard from your family,but please know that you will be in my thoughts during this time.
