

Opal Carpenter Anderson, 94, died Wednesday, February 15 at her home. She was born February 1, 1923 to the late J. “Dub” Carpenter and Annie Carpenter of Booneville. Mrs. Anderson graduated from Booneville High School in 1942. She worked for several years in the office of the Prentiss County Tax Assessor. She worked alongside her husband, Milton, following his Air Force retirement, at the Booneville Grain Company for over a decade. Throughout all the years, her primary vocation was being a homemaker and community advocate. Mrs. Anderson was instrumental in organizing Girl Scouts in Booneville in 1964 and securing the Booneville Girl Scout hut in its present location. Mrs. Anderson was a member of United Way and was diligent in fundraising for the group for many years in Prentiss County. She was active in the George E. Allen Public Library “Lunch Break” program and many other community endeavors.
Survivors include her daughter and her husband, Kathy and Russell Lamb of Booneville, two grandsons, Kevin Smith (Nicole) of Olive Branch, Kristopher Smith of Denver, Colorado, a granddaughter, Kristen Lamb Shepherd (Kent) of Lake Charles, Louisiana, a grandson, Kelly Lamb (Brenda) of Tupelo, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Annie and J. “Dub” Carpenter, a brother, Jack Carpenter, her husband of fifty-one years, Wesley Milton Anderson, in 2000, son-in-law, Larry C. Smith, and her granddaughter, Lynda Taylor Smith.
Pallbearers are Fred Gaines, Sam Galloway, Bobby Michael, David Moore, Keith Shackelford, and Richard Tollison.
