

Rufus C. “Dave” Davis, 93, passed away Monday, August 12, 2013, at his home. He was born in Tishomingo County MS on November 6, 1919, to Mack and Mattie Davis. He graduated from Belmont High School. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in France with the 4th Armored Division as a Half-Track Driver. He was in the Timber Business and managed Wallace E. Johnson’s Lumber Business in Holly Springs, MS. He later moved to Memphis and was in the Motor Carrier Business as a salesman and terminal manager. Before retirement he worked for Forest Hill Funeral Home as a salesman and counselor. He was a past president of the Memphis Traffic Club. He was an avid golfer and bowler, having won numerous tournaments in both. He was also a master storyteller and loved being with his friends and family. He was a member of 1st Baptist church in Selmer, TN and a member of the Gilley Sunday School Class
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, August 15, 2013 at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Shannon Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill East Memphis, TN.
Survivors are his wife of 28 years, Irene Beasley Davis; four sons, John M. (Jill) DeBona of Atlanta, GA, James W. Davis of Warner Robbins, GA, David (Cheryl) Davis of Jacksonville, FL and Don (Torri) Davis of Collierville, TN ; one brother, Warren Davis of Gering, NE; four grandchildren, John M. (Gina) DeBona, Ashley (Grant) Deal, Samuel and Nicholas Davis; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and his golfing buddies.
Preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Bernice Davis, Hazel Reno, Helen Nelson and Dorothy Durrance.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at McMillan Funeral Home and until service time on Thursday.
