Alfred Carregal

Alfred Joseph Carregal of Malden Massachusetts, formerly of Boston’s North End, died on Sunday, March 17, 2013. Beloved husband of Caroline B. (Mazur) Carregal, devoted son of Gloria Carregal and son-in-law of Blanche Mazur of Florida and the late Joseph Mazur. Cherished father of Justine (Carregal) Fialkosky and her husband Gary of Newton, Marc Carregal and his wife Jody of Peabody, Alexander Carregal, Matthew Carregal of Malden, and Kristin Cuccio, who was like a daughter. Dear brother of Anthony Mendez and his companion Esta Fisher of the North End and brother-in-law of Blanche and Doug Necessary of Florida. Cherished grandfather of Michael, Sophia, Victoria and Jillian, beloved nephew of Carmen and the late Alphonso Serantes and the late Joseph and Manuela Carregal. Beloved cousin of Joseph and Johanna Carregal, Frances and Dennis Lauria, Anna and Michael Potter and Mary Couceiro.

Born in La Coruna Spain, Al enjoyed vacationing there with his family and close friends. An avid sports fan, Al enjoyed playing baseball and bocce in the North End park, coaching soccer, umpiring, and was known to many as “Coach Al.” He was happiest spending time with his family and many friends. Al was a father to all and will be sorely missed, but his charisma and compassion will forever carry on through the lives of the people he touched.

A funeral will be held from the Boston Harborside Home, 580 commercial St. Boston, MA 02109 on Thursday, March 21 at 9:00am followed by a Mass at St. Stephen Church at 10am. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Winchester, MA. Family will be receiving visitors on Wednesday from 4 to 8pm.
