She attended St. John’s School in the North End and graduated from Mt. St. Joseph Academy, class of 1965. Barbara was married for 57 years to her beloved husband, Carl M. Sutera, her childhood sweetheart, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, partnership, and memories. Together, they built a strong and caring family that was the center of Barbara’s world.
She was a proud and devoted mother to her children and six grandsons, who were the greatest joys of her life. Barbara is survived by her son Mark and wife Sara Sutera, daughter Lea and her late husband Steven Woodward and grandsons Alessandro, Griffin, Luciano, Tucker, Camden and Giovani and sister Lorraine (Langone) Passacantilli. Barbara’s warmth, generosity, and unwavering support shaped her family and touched all who knew her.
Born and raised in Boston’s historic North End, Barbara carried her Italian traditions, values, and close-knit spirit throughout her life. She will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and the deep love she gave so freely to her family and friends. Barbara’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
