Laura Benvenuto was born on November 4, 1943, and passed away on April 21, 2026. She was born into a second-generation Sicilian family in Queens, New York, the oldest of three children. Alongside her brothers, George and Richard Realmuto, she grew up closely connected to a large extended family.
She attended St. John’s University, where she earned a Master’s degree in Education. During that time, she met her former spouse, Art Benvenuto. They married and had two children, Christine and Mark.
Laura was a devoted mother, a dear friend, and an active member of her community. She had a natural ability to connect with people. In addition to her career in teaching, she worked as a travel guide, leading tours both locally and across the country.
She had a strong spirit and a zest for life, with a love of food, travel, and bringing people together.
Her son Mark married Meredith (née Freeman), and they had two children, Ella and Siena. Being a grandmother was one of Laura’s greatest joys.
For the past 18 years, Laura lived in Boston’s North End, where she was an integral part of the community. She was actively involved with the North End Library and the Friends of Christopher Columbus Park. She had a twinkle in her eye that reflected her warmth and curiosity, and walking through the neighborhood with her often meant stopping every half block to talk with the many people who knew and cared for her.
She will be remembered for her generosity, kindness, and deep connection to her family, friends, and community.
Laura is survived by her brothers, George and Richard Realmuto; her daughter, Christine Benvenuto, and son-in-law, David Pepper, and his children and their spouses; her son, Mark Benvenuto, and daughter-in-law, Meredith Benvenuto; and their children, her granddaughters, Ella and Siena.
A funeral Mass will be held at Saint Leonard Church, 320 Hanover St., Boston's North End on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
