

Lloyd (Jake) Katz of Boston on March 3, 2013. For 37 years, Jake was the beloved companion and husband of Cynthia Jones Katz. He was the loving son of Barbara F. Katz of Braintree, MA and deceased Myron Katz. He was a loyal friend to everyone that had the good fortune of knowing him.
Jake was born in 1951 and grew up in Chestnut Hill, MA. He graduated from the Roosevelt School in Stamford, CT, Goddard College in Plainfield, VT and received his MBA from Northeastern University. Jake traveled extensively outside the U.S., enhanced by his fluency in Spanish. He loved the outdoors and in 1976 sailed transatlantic on the Tall Ship RARA AVIS.
Jake was in Public Relations for the City of Boston during Kevin White’s years and in the early 80’s he was a stockbroker with the investment firm of Hornblower Weeks-Hemphill Noyes & Trask, Smith Barney, and Tucker Anthony. Additionally he was a respected, prolific writer and educator. He taught at Pine Manor College, Mount Ida College, Northeastern University and Boston University from 1983 until 2003.He was a long-time member of the Boston Tennis and Racquet Club, a charter member of Sports Club/LA Boston, and an active member of Sky Club Devonshire, Charles River Canoe and Kayak and the Boston Athenaeum. He was also a formidable opponent at both table tennis and pool.
He will be remembered for his wit and intelligence and for the many friendships he fostered throughout the years and truly missed. Jake’s philosophy, often expressed, was “a short life and a merry one.” He had a great life. In Lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Humanist Community Project at Harvard Humanist Chaplaincy Office, The Memorial Church, One Harvard Yard, Cambridge, MA 02138. A private memorial service will be held with a gathering to celebrate Jake announced at a later date.
